Project Background
My name is Grace Meikle, and I am a fiction writer from Canada. I previously lived in Japan. Even though I live in Canada, I still feel connected to Japan. I also want people outside Japan to better understand the recovery from the 3/1/1. To that end, I am writing a story about recovery after 3/1/1, motherhood and family, and the international response. The working title of my novel is “Until Next Time”. My project is being undertaken with support from my local government in Canada through the the Alberta Foundation for the Arts.
Research Goals
I would like to hear the perspective of Tōhoku residents about the recovery and future outlook. I would like to conduct interviews as research for my novel to ensure accuracy about this topic. Below are some examples of my reearch questions:
-
What would you like people outside Japan to know?
-
What is your hope for the future in the region where you live?
-
How can foreigners help the Tohoku region’s recovery?
